Recent studies have demonstrated that yeast enriched with selenium, featuring a balanced amino acid and lipid profile, can be utilized to create a novel formula for dietary supplements. These supplements can be incorporated into various diets for both humans and animals.
Advances in selenium supplementation: Selenium-enriched yeast
Recent studies have demonstrated that yeast enriched with selenium, featuring a balanced amino acid and lipid profile, can be utilized to create a novel formula for dietary supplements. These supplements can be incorporated into various diets for both humans and animals. Evidence indicates that Se when combined with proteins, forms what are known as selenium bioplexes. These bioplexes exhibit enhanced intracellular absorption and incorporation.
Se-yeast as one of the main sources of organic Se is an economical and easily available source of organic forms of selenium. In this context, feed and food biofortification could be a more effective approach to addressing selenium (Se) deficiency than relying on Se fertilizers.
